#5 - fretless mountain banjo

This banjo was built between late January and early March 2021 at home in Herne Hill, using simple hand tools.

The neck and middle ring are walnut, while the front and back plates of the body are tulipwood, and the headstock veneer is sycamore.

The nuts are bone and the skin is calfskin vellum, with an internal tension hoop made from a length of PVC pipe.

The strings are nylgut (Aquila ‘Classic’ 6B) and the tuning pegs are Leader planetary tuners. The bridge is maple and ebony, and the tailpiece is walnut – from the same piece as the neck.
